Cambodia has finally launched it’s very first large-scale marine protection project – Several areas (totalling about 405km²) around Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem are now ‘Marine Fisheries Management Areas’.
Fauna and Flora International coastal and marine conservation project manager Kate West said:
“It’s a huge step for Cambodia, because there was no formal protection for these coral reef habitats before… you risked overexploiting species. The marine ecosystem is a delicate balance.”
